The Nigerian Military has continued the aerial bombardment of Fatola, the hideout of
militants and pipeline vandals in the Arepo area of Ogun State. According to online
reports, the air raid happened in yesterday afternoon and was said to have lasted 30
minutes. A fighter jet fired missiles at the Iroko creeks, leaving no fewer than 100
suspected militants dead and their camps/shanties destroyed.
Residents were caught unawares and had to run from their homes to avoid being hit
during the bombardment.
The Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar confirmed the air
strikes. According to him, the joint operation will continue until the area is secure and
free from all criminal gangs, either militants or vandals. However, he didn't ascertain the
number of casualties from the strike.

FG bans purchase and distribution of bags & T-shirts at government workshops and conferences

The Federal Government has banned the purchase and distribution of conference bags,
T-shirts and other souvenirs at events such as Conferences and Seminars funded by
Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs). This is contained in a statement
made available to newsmen in Abuja by the Director of Information, Federal Ministry of
Finance, Salisu Dambatta today July 31st.
According to the statement, the ban was in continuation of the on-going cost-cutting
and efficiency drive in the utilization of public funds by the present administration. The
statement reads in part
“The directive which is a recognition of the fact that in a period of lean financial
resources unnecessary expenditure on overheads such souvenirs are luxuries that
the government must eliminate.
This will enable release of funds for infrastructure and services such as health
and education that would have direct positive impact on the well being of the
citizenry and promote economic development. The directive also contained
specific guidelines that would reduce the cost of printing Invitation Cards,
Programme of events, Brochures, Folders and Note Pads. Among the guidelines
are that they should be in black and white and limited to only one page and in
the case of Brochures they should be streamlined to contain only essential
information”it said. Also, the statement said the printing of unnecessary
publications and books of short shelf life which have no real value to the
concerned public institutions or the citizens has also been banned. “MDAs were
encouraged to save costs by uploading such publications on their websites
which has the added benefit of wider visibility” the statement read

kanye west shares his view on the on-going battle between apple and Tidal

The rapper shared his view on the on-going battle between streaming platforms –
Apple and Jay Z’s Tidal on twitter.

Yeezy, along with acts such as Rihanna and Coldplay, signed on as part owners in the
company.
Despite a number of high-profile exclusives (the most notable being Beyonce‘s
‘Lemonade’), the service lags by quite a margin behind market leader Spotify and Apple
Music.
For a while now, there have been talks about Apple wanting to buy Tidal but Jay Z has
reportedly refused to sell.
Now, it looks like Kanye’s irritation comes stems from the commercial downside of
being on Team Tidal. He went on a rant on twitter in a bid to “broker peace between
the two sides”.

MEND Says FG is Ready for Conditional Release of Nnamdi Kanu, Henry Okah, Others

Nnamdi Kanu (L) and Henry Okah (R)

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has said that they are
currently in talks with the federal government.

The group in a statement by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo on Saturday said that the
FG, as part of the deal for a return of peace to the oil-rich Niger Delta, has agreed to
release Nnamdi Kanu , leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) , a former
MEND leader, Henry Okah , who is serving a jail sentence in South Africa, Okah’s younger
brother, Charles, and Obi Nwabueze.

The statement, according to Vanguard, read:

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is the only militant
group from the Niger Delta region who are presently engaged in a dialogue with the
Federal Government of Nigeria – through oil companies and security agencies – with a
view to resolving the current Niger Delta crisis.

Thus far, the deliberations have been fruitful, various concessions and guarantees have
already been secured. Some of which include, but are not limited to: Release of Henry
Okah, Charles Okah and Obi Nwabueze; Review of the life sentence handed to Edmund
Ebiware based on a proposal put forward by the Aaron Team representative for Abia
and Imo states, Senator Adolphus Wabara .

Also, conditional release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu and others if they renounce their
agitation for a ‘Biafra Republic’.

That Government Ekpemupolo shall not be arrested, harassed and/or intimidated
whenever he makes himself available as a delegate of the MEND Aaron Team.
That international arbitrator and conflict negotiator, American Dr. Judith Asuni shall be
accepted as the representative of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) on the MEND Aaron
Team; that the criminal charges against Urhobo freedom fighter, Kelvin Prosper Oniarah
shall be reviewed.

That the life sentence which was handed to seven soldiers in 2008, who actively
supported the Niger Delta struggle be reviewed under the Presidential Amnesty
Programme. The affected persons are: Major Suleiman Alabi Akubo , Sgt. Mathias Peter ,
L.Cpl. Alexander Davou , L.Cpl. Moses Nwaigwe , L.Cpl. Nnandi Anene , L.Cpl. Taatihi
Emmanuel , and Caleb Bawa, PTE.

However, one of the most immediate and urgent fallout of the ongoing dialogue is the
imperative for the Federal Government and MEND to jointly and separately take
proactive steps to rescue and secure the region. This is in the event that the
recalcitrant Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), continuing on its senseless and politically-
motivated path of attacks on the country’s oil assets.
To this end, both parties agreed that the Special Forces of the Nigerian Army should
commence the purely routine but strategic military exercise code-named ‘Operation
Crocodile Tears’ while MEND will commence a meet-the Government-Actors-and-
People tour of the Niger Delta region code-named ‘Operation Moses’.

BREAKING: FG Scraps HNDs , Merges Polytechnics With Universities

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a comprehensive reform of Nigeria's tertiary education system, scrapping the award of the Higher National Diploma (HND) by the nation's polytechnics.

In effect, the award of the HND will be limited to only the students currently admitted for the programmes. Also, all the programmes currently being run by the polytechnics, which are not technology-based, and which are about 70 per cent, will be scrapped.

Under the new rule, the polytechnics will now become campuses of the proximate universities with the Vice Chancellors of those universities appointing provosts for the polytechnics, subject to the ratification of the Universities Councils.

The polytechnics will now be limited to award of the National Diploma (ND) while those desirous of further education will be awarded the Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) by the proximate university.

To kick-start the new policy, the nation's two most prominent polytechnics - Yaba College of Technology and Kaduna Polytechnic - will henceforth be known as City University of Technology,Yaba and City University of Technology, Kaduna.

And to give legal teeth to these approvals, the FEC approved the submission of two Executive bills to the National Assembly for enactment into law. With education being on the concurrent list, the states may wish to consolidate their tertiary institutions. But if they do not wish to follow the federal example, their programmes will continue to be regulated by the relevant agencies of the Federal Ministry of Education.

The first bill will concretize the setting up of the two city universities while the second will approve the preparation and consolidation of all federal polytechnics and colleges of education as campuses of proximate universities.

The Ministry of Justice will do the preparation and submission of the two bills to the National Assembly.

Minister of Education, Mall. Adamu, told journalists after the weekly meeting of the council that under the reform measures, her ministry would, however, continue to licence private
polytechnics and colleges of education for the award of qualification at ND and National Certificate in Education (NCE) levels.
She said: "There will be no more award of HND. After we have exhausted the current students under the programme, there will be no more award of HND. This means
that there will be no fresh admission for HND programmes. And in addition, any programme that is not technical will be out of the polytechnics. About 70 per cent of polytechnic graduates are in the non-technical courses. It is going to be a
rigorous implementation programme."

A ministerial committee to ensure the smooth implementation of all that is required for the take-off of the reform initiatives is to begin work immediately. Mall. Adamu said: "The HND certificate will remain a legal tender in Nigeria and holders of such certificate will continue to be recognised as the equivalent of first degree holders without discriminatory remunerations and limit to progression in the work place.

The NCE certificate will be retained as the minimum teaching qualification at the basic level of education. Any higher qualifications by these private or state-owned polytechnics will be only affiliation with a university. So, HND is no longer in existence, but existing HND will be respected and considered legal tender."

The council also approved the Federal Government's formal take-over of the Waziri Umaru Polytechnic, Birnin Kebbi, which will be the College of Technology campus of the Othman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, as well as the Hussein Adamu
Polytechnic, Kazaure, Bauchi, which will be a College of Technology of the proximate
university in the state. Also, the Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, Imo State,
has been taken over as a campus of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri. A state that had never had any federal institution, like Bayelsa, is to have a College of Technology as a campus of theCollege of Technology of the University of Port Harcourt.

The case against them ranges from corrupt enrichment, abuse of

Some Ministers are squatting and living in conditions equal to that of most Nigerians- Rotimi Amaechi

During an interview with Osasu Igbinedion on The Osasu Show, the Minister of
Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said some ministers are currently squatting in
Abuja, and live like regular Nigerians.
Amaechi, who recently launched the Abuja-Kaduna railway line said:
“Listen to me; do you know that ministers, as we are talking now, some of them
are squatting? We are living in conditions equal to that of most Nigerians”.
He also said that with the construction of the rail line, life would be easier for Nigerians
and accommodation more affordable. He added that Nigerians can now live in Kaduna
and work in Abuja, while paying less for accommodation in Kaduna.
He said:
“For those who don’t have houses, they’re able to rent houses at a cheap cost in
Kaduna as against that of Abuja. It also impacts the savings; you have
disposable income in your hand. It also impacts on agriculture, agricultural
produce, you can transport easily and it will impact on cost of production
because at that point, you’re able to move the cargo at a cheaper cost.
“And then whatever comes out of production, will be sold to the people at a
cheaper cost. So basically, it has economic importance that would at the end of
the day, impact on the socio-economic entities of Kaduna and Abuja.”

Reasons why you should consume fish more

Fish is among the healthiest foods on the planet. This is because it is loaded with important nutrients, such as protein and vitamin D. It is also the world’s best source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are incredibly important for your body and brain.

Here Are Reasons You Should Consume Fish More....

1. It Contains Nutrients That Most People Don’t Get Enough of
Generally speaking, all types of fish are good for you, because they are high in many nutrients that most people are not getting enough of. However, some are better than others, and the fatty ones are considered the healthiest.
This is because fatty fish (like salmon, trout, sardines, tuna and mackerel) are higher in fat-based nutrients, which includes the fat-soluble vitamin D, a nutrient that most people are deficient in. It functions like a steroid hormone in the body.
Fatty fish are also much higher in omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids are crucial for your body and brain to function optimally, and are strongly linked to reduced risk of many diseases.

2. It Is A Good Dietary Source of Vitamin D

Like the Omega-3 acid, vitamin D is another major nutrient this amazing food contains.
Fish and its products are the best dietary sources of vitamin D, by far and vitamin D, is essential for healthy teeth and bones. Fatty ones like salmon and herring contain the highest amounts.
Some fish oils, such as cod liver oil, are also very high in vitamin D, providing more than 200% of the recommended intake in a single tablespoon.

3. It Increases Grey Matter in the Brain and Protects The Brain From Age-Related Deterioration
Brain deterioration is one of the consequences of ageing. Fish consumption is linked to reduced decline in brain function in old age. People who also eat more of it  have more grey matter in the brain centers that control memory and emotion.

Grey matter is the major functional tissue in your brain, containing the neurons that process information, store memories and make you human.

4. Reduces Risk of Heart Attacks and Strokes
Fish is generally considered to be among the best foods you can eat for a healthy heart. Observational studies have shown that people who eat it regularly seem to have a lower risk of heart attacks, strokes and death from heart disease.
Thus, experts recommends eating fish, at least one serving per week as it has been linked to reduced risk of heart attacks and strokes, two of the world’s biggest killers.

5. Help Prevent Asthma In Children
Asthma is a common disease that is characterized by chronic inflammation in the airways. Studies show that regular fish consumption is linked to a 24% lower risk of asthma in children, although, no significant effect has been found in adults.

6. It Contains Crucial Nutrients Crucial For Development
Fish contains Omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for growth and development. The omega-3 fatty acid docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is especially important, because it accumulates in the developing brain and eye.

Thus, it is recommended that expecting and nursing mothers make sure to eat enough omega-3s.
However, some fish is high in mercury, which ironically is linked to brain developmental problems. For this reason, pregnant women should ones that are low in the food chain ( eg salmon, sardines, trout, etc)
Pregnant women should also avoid raw and uncooked fish (including sushi), because it may contain microorganisms that can harm the fetus.

7. Help Prevent And Treat Depression
Depression is a serious and incredibly common mental disorder, which is characterized by low mood, sadness, decreased energy and loss of interest in life and activities.

The Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish can be beneficial against depression, both on their own and when taken with antidepressant medications.
What this simply means is that fish can literally make you a happier person and improve your quality of life. Omega-3 fatty acids which it contains may also help with other mental disorders, such as bipolar disorder.

8. Good For The Eyes

People who eat more fish have lower risk of developing macular degeneration, a leading cause of vision impairment and blindness.

9. Improve Sleep Quality

There is preliminary evidence that eating fatty fish like salmon may lead to improved sleep.

10. Reduces Risk of Autoimmune Diseases, Including Type 1 Diabetes
Autoimmune disease occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy body tissues. A key example is type 1 diabetes, which involves the immune system attacking the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas.

The Fajuyi Spirit - By Femi Fani-Kayode

Read his piece below...

Fifty years ago today, on July 29th 1966, a man by the name of Lt. Col. Francis
Adekunle Fajuyi gave his life in defence of our country and the then Head of
State, General Johnson Thomas Aguiyi-Ironsi. His killers were a group of northern
army officers who participated in the so-called northern "revenge coup" of July
29th 1966. No less than 300 Igbo army officers were slaughtered that night
together with a handful of yoruba soldiers, including Fajuyi.

Major General Fajuyi was a yoruba man who opted to die in defence of an igbo Head of
State. This was not only honorable and courageous but it was also unique and
unprecedented. He was a selfless hero and a man that we shall honor and immortalise
in the new Nigeria that is to come.

Those that murdered him, General Aguiyi-Ironsi and the famous 300 in cold blood that
night are still running the affairs of our country till today. They determine who is who
and who gets what. They decide who our President will be and how long he will remain
in power. As a matter of fact their hateful hegemony and evil intentions are even more
pronounced and frightful today than they were in 1966 and their grip on the levers of
power in our country is even stronger.

Today they are fully in charge and some of those that actually shot Fajuyi are fully
behind them. Yet despite their intention to dominate, silence, break and destroy the rest
of us one thing remains clear: the Fajuyi spirit of courage, unity, selflesness and
sacrifice has been imbued by millions in the southern and Middle Belt regions of our
country.

These are men and women that are prepared to stand shoulder to shoulder with the
oppressed of our nation, whether they be Niger Deltans, Igbos, Yorubas? Middle Belters
or anything else. These are men and women that are prepared to resist the perfidious
religious and ethnic agenda of the "born to rule" in our midst and that recognise the fact
that they regard the rest of us as nothing but slaves. When it comes to southern rights
and interests we the Yoruba particularly must learn a lesson from our own son Fajuyi
and emulate his example.

Like him, if necessary, we must be ready to sacrifice our lives and liberty in defence of
any or all of our southern and Middle Belt bretheren that are facing persecution,
genocide and injustice at the hands of our collective slave masters. It is also time for
us to appreciate the fact that if we truly want to be free we must extend our hand of
friendship across the River Niger to the Igbo and we must see their bitter travails as
being ours as well.

We must also feel the pain when an Igbo or Niger-Deltan youth is slaughtered by
President Buhari's army in the name of "crushing all opposition and dissent" and
"keeping Nigeria one". We must also feel the pain when an Igbo or Niger-Deltan youth is
slaughtered by President Buhari's army in the name of "crushing all opposition and
dissent" and "keeping Nigeria one".

We must acknowledge the fact that Nigeria cannot remain one as long as there is
ethnic and religious bigotry, oppression and injustice. We must appreciate the fact that
there can never be southern, or indeed Middle Belt, emancipation without southern unity.
Fajuyi understood that point 50 years ago. Consequently he opted to resist the evil in
the and and die for it. He was indeed a true martyr. He paid the supreme price for his
fellow southerner and he stood against northern adventurism, oppression, domination
and hegemony. 50 years later it is time for the rest of us to do the same.

It is time for us to acknowledge and honor his sacrifice and come together as one. It is
time for us to stand up, look at our collective oppressors in the eye and say "no more".
No longer should we bow our heads in submission, servility and shame. It is time for us
to rise up, invoke the power of the Living God and be men. May the gallant and
beautiful soul of Major General Fajuyi continue to rest in eternal peace and may those
that murdered him 50 years ago be brought to justice.

Hard Times Ahead For Nigerian Economy – Ex-CBN Deputy Gov Says

A former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr Tunde Lemo,
has said the country should expect a further shrinkage in economic
activities this year.
He said the impact of this projected shrinkage would be especially
felt across the major sectors of the economy. He, therefore,
advised Government to intensify efforts towards diversifying the
economy.

He stated this at the 61st Annual National Convention of the
Foursquare Gospel Church.
The event, held at the Foursquare National Headquarters in
Lagos, had as its theme, ‘The Nigerian Economy: The past, present
and the future’.

Mr. Lemo, according to a statement issued, said it was regrettable
that despite the progress made by the country on the political
front, available indices “have unveiled the painful lop-sidedness
of Nigeria’s economic prosperity.”

He was quoted as saying, “Nigeria economic activities are
expected to shrink by 1.8 per cent in 2016 in a bid to adjust to
foreign currency shortages as a result of lower oil receipts, low
power generation and weak investors’ confidence. These will
affect the major sectors of the economy.

“We need to key into ways to reform the economy and drive
toward diversification.”

The ex-CBN deputy governor said the country’s Gross Domestic
Product had contracted by -0.36% in the first quarter of this year,
which he said was “a likely indication that the economy would
record another negative growth in the second quarter.”

“The country has been badly hit by unemployment rate at 12.1%
with exports dropping by 34.6%, while imports declined by 7.8%
in the first quarter of 2016,” Lemo observed.
He said Nigerians should demand from the President
Muhammadu Buhari administration an urgent diversification of
the economy.

Lemo explained, “The present administration advocated for anti-
corruption and economic reform during the past election, but it
has not succeeded in proving to Nigerians and the world its
capacity to bring about economic reformation. Its major headache
lies in how to rejig the Nigerian economy and set it back on a
growth trajectory.

“We have to insist on economic reform and diversification to
revamp the economy, because it can help to deliver inclusive
growth in the system.”

He said Nigeria had slid into economic recession, pointing out that
a country would be in a recession when it records two consecutive
quarters of negative economic growth as measured by its GDP.

“The country’s economic is in recession. What we need now is
massive fiscal policy to revive the economy. Government has to
pump more money into the economy and not just on capital
projects.”

BAD HABITS FOR YOUR HEART

Bad habits for your heart
Everyone wants to have a healthy heart. Still, cardiovascular disease
affects more than 1 in 3 adults in the United States.
The good news is that some simple, everyday habits can make a big
difference in your ability to live a healthy lifestyle.
Here are the worst habits for your heart, and how to avoid them.

1. WATCHING TV

Sitting for hours on end increases your risk of heart attack and
stroke, even if you exercise regularly.
"Intermittent exercise doesn't compensate for the time you sit," says
Harmony R. Reynolds, MD, associate director of the Cardiovascular
Clinical Research Center at NYU Langone Medical Center, in New
York City.
Why? The lack of movement may affect blood levels of fats and
sugars.
Dr. Reynolds advises walking around periodically and, if you're at
work, standing up to talk on the phone.

2. LEAVING HOSTILITY AND DEPRESSION ON CHECKED

Are you feeling stressed, hostile, or depressed? It can take a toll on
your heart.
While everyone feels this way some of the time, how you handle
these emotions can affect your heart health. “Those likely to
internalize stress are in greater danger; research has shown a
benefit to laughter and social support,” Dr. Reynolds says.
“And it’s helpful to be able to go to someone and talk about your
problems.”

3. IGNORING THE SNORING

More than a minor annoyance, snoring can be a sign of something
more serious: obstructive sleep apnea. This disorder, marked by
breathing that is interrupted during sleep, can cause blood pressure
to skyrocket.
More than 18 million Americans adults have sleep apnea, which
increases the risk of heart disease. People who are overweight or
obese are at higher risk for sleep apnea, but slim people can have it
too.
If you snore and often wake up feeling tired, talk with your doctor;
there are easy ways to screen for apnea, says Robert Ostfeld, MD,
associate professor of clinical medicine at Montefiore Medical

4. DRINKING (TOO MUCH) ALCOHOL

Sure, studies suggest a small amount of alcohol may be good for
your heart. Alas, too many over-imbibe.
Excess alcohol is linked to a greater risk of high blood pressure,
high levels of blood fats, and heart failure. In addition, the extra
calories can lead to weight gain, a threat to heart health.
If you drink, stick to no more than two drinks per day for men, and
no more than one a day for women. (One drink means a 12-ounce
beer or 4-ounce glass of wine).

5. OVEREATING

Being overweight is a major risk factor for heart disease, and 72% of
men and 64% of women in the U.S are overweight or obese.
Try to eat less, avoid oversize portions, and replace sugary drinks
with water.
Dr. Reynolds and Dr. Hochman also suggest cutting portion sizes for
high-calorie carbohydrates (think refined pastas and breads) and
watching out for foods labeled “low-fat,” which are often high in
calories.

6. EATING RED MEAT

It’s best to think of red meat as an occasional treat rather than the
foundation of a daily diet. Red meat is high in saturated fat, and
there’s also evidence that processed meat, such as bacon and hot
dogs, increases your risk of cardiovascular disease and colorectal
cancer. Ideally, less than 10% of your diet should come from
animals and animal products, Dr. Ostfeld advises.
Can’t part with the beef? Choose a lean cut of red meat and limit
your intake. “People have to know that if you want a steak a few
times a month, it’s OK,” Dr. Hochman says. “It’s what you’re eating
three times a day that’s the issue. Be in it for the long haul. Eat a
balanced diet

7. SMOKING OR LIVING WITH A SMOKER

Sure, you've heard it a million times before: Don't smoke. But it
bears repeating.
"Smoking is a total disaster for your heart," says Dr. Ostfeld.
Smoking promotes blood clots, which can block blood flow to the
heart, and contributes to plaque buildup in the arteries.
It's also a smart bomb aimed at everyone around you, Dr. Ostfeld
says. In fact, about 46,000 nonsmokers who live with a smoker die
from heart disease each year because of secondhand smoke.

8. STOPPING OR SKIPPING MEDS

Let's be honest: Taking pills is a pain. There can be side effects.
And it's easy to forget your meds, especially if you feel fine.
"High blood pressure is called the silent killer because you don't
feel it," Dr. Ostfeld says. "Saying you feel fine is not a justification
for stopping these pills."
There are 30 types of high blood pressure medications, so there are
choices if one isn't working, Dr. Hochman says. "If one medication
doesn't work, we can try something else."

8. AVOIDING FRUITS AND VEGETABLES

"The most heart-healthy diet is a plant-based diet," Dr. Ostfeld says.
That means loading up on fruits and vegetables, nuts, whole grains,
low-fat dairy, and protein, and keeping junk food to a minimum. In
fact, new federal dietary guidelines recommend that half of each
meal should be composed of fruits and vegetables.
Research has found that people who eat more than five servings of
fruits and vegetables a day had about 20% lower risk of heart
disease and stroke than people who ate less than three servings per
day.

9. IGNORING PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS

If you used to walk up three flights of stairs without a problem, but
suddenly you're short of breath after one flight or have chest
pressure, it's time to call your doctor—now. Never assume it's
because you're out of shape.
Doctors say "time is muscle," meaning the quicker you get treatment
for possible trouble, the less likely you are to have permanent
damage to your heart muscle.
"It's better for it to be much ado about nothing than sitting on a
heart attack for six hours," which is not uncommon, Dr. Ostfeld
says.

Good News! Lagos Begins Exportation Of Crude Oil

Following the commissioning of a production and storage vessel
for crude oil, Lagos state is set for its first oil lifting for export
from Aje field, offshore Lagos.
This is coming following a declaration by Governor Akinwunmi
Ambode that Lagos had officially joined the oil producing states in
Nigeria.
This followed the discovery of crude oil by Yinka Folawiyo
Petroleum Company Limited (YFP). Daily Trust reports that the
independent E&P Company in partnership with YFP on the Aje
Field which made the announcement said the targeted stabilised
production rates have not yet been achieved yet due to
mechanical issues and Nigerian regulatory approvals.
“Until the outstanding issues are resolved, which could take until
the end of Q4 2016, production shall be maintained at a restricted
daily rate of approximately 7,000-8,000 barrels of oil.
“We expect the first crude oil lifting from the Front Puffin FPSO to
take place at the end of August,” it said adding “In the meantime
we continue to be encouraged by the performance of the
reservoir to date.”
The company said several international oil companies have
expressed interest in purchasing Aje oil.
“Laboratory assays have been delivered on Aje crude oil which
show it to be as expected a high quality grade of approximately 42
degree API.”
John Hamilton, CEO of Panoro said: “We are very pleased with the
reservoir performance at Aje and are planning the next steps to
realize its full potential.”
Mr. Tunde Folawiyo who is the group managing director had told
Governor Ambode that the company committed about $400m to
achieve the feat.
He also said the oil well has the capacity to produce at least 12,000
barrels per day, with a possibility to increase to 25,000 to 50,000
barrels per day in the nearest future.
Meanwhile, the search for oil in the north has received a boost
following the revelation by the Niger state government that large
quantity of crude oil was in the Bida Basin ready for exploration.
Jonathan Vatsa who is the commissioner for information, culture
and tourism in Niger revealed that the immediate past state
government, through a committee it set up, had confirmed the
availability of large quantity of crude oil in the Bida Basin.
This is coming after President Muhammadu Buhari called for an
exploration of oil in the north and this is expected to reduce the
dependence Niger Delta oil.

National Convention still holds on August 17th- PDP insist

PDP says their party convention slated for August 17th in Rivers state will still hold
despite yesterday's court order by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High court,
stopping the convention. Read the party's press statement below:
The Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by the Chairman of
the National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, CON has reacted to
the Ruling of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday July 28, 2016, presided
over by the controversial Judge, Justice Okon Abang describing it as
objectionable, questionable and very strange to say the least in the history of
Nigeria Judiciary.
The Party in a statement by its Spokesman, Prince Dayo Adeyeye declared that what
Justice Okon Abang did today is to Seat on an Appeal over the Court of competent and
coordinate jurisdiction and that’s what makes his Interlocutory Order very strange. The
Judgment of the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt was very clear that the National
Caretaker Committee was duly constituted and recognized; and in line with that, the
scheduled National Convention for August 17, 2016 still holds.
We have just received information that Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in
Abuja has granted an Order of Interlocutory Injunction stopping our scheduled National
Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, but we want to state that the Judgment of the
4th of July, 2016 supersedes any Ex-Parte Order or Interlocutory Injunctions. So, our
National Convention will hold as scheduled in Port Harcourt, Rivers State” Prince
Adeyeye said.
Let Nigerians recall the two former Judgments before the Port Harcourt Judgment,
declared that Senator Sheriff is not qualified to be a National Chairman given that the
PDP Constitution 2014 which he claimed brought him to power is not in existence and
therefore, null and void.
The PDP wants Nigerians to know that Justice Okon Abang is deliberately engaging in
acts of derailing the Country’s democracy given the fact that his Court is not an Appeal
Court that can set aside any Judgment. He has penchant for abuse of court processes
and actions of legal impunity. This Judge Nigerians will recall, issued Judgment against
the Governor of Abia State that led to INEC re-issuing another Certificate of Return to a
man who did not contest election thereby causing unnecessary hardship on the people
of that State. He also issued an Order to INEC to recognize Senator Sheriff’s candidates
in Edo and Ondo states before they could even plan their purported congress in Edo.
In today’s Case, this same Judge out rightly denied the PDP representation in Court
which is unheard of by serving the Plaintiff (Sheriff & Co.) who instituted the Case also
as PDP (defendants). His excesses are extremely absurd, strange and unbecoming of a
Judge who enjoys putting the Judiciary on the spot. We therefore bring this matter
before the highest level of Judiciary in the Country to stop this Judge forthwith from
waging war against the PDP.
We are equally calling on Nigerians and the international community to compel Nigeria
Judiciary to address Justice Abang’s excesses before he kills our hard earned
democracy.
However, the Party is law abiding and therefore, will apply for Stay of Execution of this
Order and also Appeal it.
Finally, the Party calls on all its members and teaming supporters nationwide to remain
calm and law abiding and be rest assured that the PDP National Convention will hold as
scheduled and all preparation towards the August 17, 2016 National Convention
remains the same.
Signed:
Prince Dayo Adeyeye
Member, National Caretaker Committee

If I Stop Talking, Nigerians Will Suffer – Fayose Boasts

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has warned electorates in
Ondo State not to vote for the All Progressives Congress in the
forthcoming governorship election.
The governor, who said the party was not a good option for
people of the state, boasted that if he stopped talking about the
current government, Nigerians would suffer.
Fayose gave this advice on a radio programme in Akure, the
capital of Ondo State.
He said the APC government had failed the people of Nigeria in
the last one year of its rule.
He said, “Don’t let me deceive you my people in Ondo State, don’t
allow the APC to take over this state, if you allow them, your
condition would be worse than what you are passing through
now, their government would be a disaster for you.
“They have nothing to offer, all they know is propaganda, you can
see what is happening in Nigeria now, if you vote for them what
they are doing at the national level is what they would be doing
here. You can see what is happening in all the states they are
controlling.
“Look at our condition in Nigeria, our condition is getting worse
on daily basis, they have no solution to the economic problem
facing the nation currently, yet they say they want to take over
your state, I enjoined you, don’t allow them, they have nothing to
offer.
“If I stop talking, Nigerian masses will suffer, a government
without an opposition will not do anything, they want to shut me
up, but I will not stop talking, let them continue to abuse me, I
don’t mind.
“I am not attacking the President, I don’t hate the President but
what I have been saying is the truth and they too know I am
saying the truth. I am saying the truth so that the President can do
things that will benefit the people of this country. All of us cannot
keep quite.”

Sure ways to get rid of a pot belly

Sure Ways To Get Rid Of That Pot Belly

Whenever the subject is about the pot belly, the jury is out on guys being the biggest culprits. But in actuality, a protruding tummy is fast becoming a problem for the ladies as much as it is for the menfolk.
Everyone has belly fat, everyone, including that guy with a six pack. Most of it provides cushioning around our organs,
It’s still common knowledge that there is a class of guys that think having pot belly is sexy but please we beg to differ!! Nobody likes the sight of a man looking like he has a baby bump, it’s not only bad for the look of your jeans; it’s a potential health problem.
Research has shown that a bulging stomach is also a common symptom in those diagnosed with cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and dyslipidemia which explains why even kids now are affected by diseases otherwise associated with old age. Here are some practical steps to eliminate abdominal obesity.

Reduce Alcohol Intake

Quite simply put, frequent intakes of alcohol are a bad idea for your health and invariably have huge links to excess belly fat. It is proved that avoiding alcohol when focusing to lose weight will prove to be as much effective as avoiding chocolates. So if your bulging stomach is refusing to go in, cutting down on your booze may help a little.

Consume More Fibre
Any plant based food which your body can’t digest is fiber. These include vegetables, corn, oats, beans etc. Since most fiber cannot be digested it stays in our stomach longer than other substances and makes us feel full sooner. Though most of it may not contain essential nutrients, fiber helps in reducing the chances of many diseases and is highly effective for weight loss.
Increase Water Intake
As simple as it sounds, and as common as water is, it remains one of the miracles of nature. When next you are done with a meal, skip the soft drinks; in fact eradicate the idea that you must have a bottle after a meal. Sufficient amount of water intake is one of the basic requirements for a healthy body. An average person should drink approximately 3.5-4 liters of water every day for healthy functioning throughout the day. Sufficient water intake keeps the body properly hydrated and make the stomach feel filled, thus helping in reducing diet. Where on one hand water consumption performs cleansing activities and helps in proper digestion of food thus avoiding obesity, on the other hand soft drinks and sodas contain sugar which in turn has calories resulting in body fat.

Exercise Often

Won’t it just be fun if we could just eat, sleep and wake up with the perfect body? But sadly that’s not ever going to happen. Nothing good comes easy they say and that applies to having a flat tummy. If you have identified your pot belly as a problem, then get ready to work at it. No matter what diet plans we adopt or other measures we take, we would still need to regularly exercise to ensure good shaped healthy body. Physical exercise helps keep the body active, flexible and energetic and is an easy remedy for fat and most fat related diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Physical exercise might include anything from jogging, running, yoga, gym, dancing and other activities requiring physical energy. It will also be wise to seek the services of a professional trainer.
Keep The Right Posture
That lousy posture of yours might just be a big problem. Keeping the correct body posture is a highly efficient way of avoiding unwanted fat round the belly. Keeping your back straight, in particular, while sitting helps in tucking the stomach inward thus maintaining equilibrium in the body. Keeping correct postures also help avoiding problems like back or other sorts of muscle pain and keeps the body healthy and physically active thus avoiding any sort of body fat accumulation. It’s been proven that unhealthy sitting positions over a period of time could lead to developing a pot belly

Edo Election:- ‘My Credentials Made Me Governor, Not Ize-Iyamu,’ Says Oshiomhole

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has said that the Peoples
Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, was
running from the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when
he emerged Governor.
Oshiomhole was reacting to Ize-Iyamu’s statement that he was
instrumental to the Governor’s election in 2007.
The Governor stated this during a campaign rally for the All
Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the forthcoming Edo
governorship election, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, which was held at
Garrick Memorial College in Oredo Local Government Area of the
state.
“Check the records; on April 14, during my election, Ize-Iyamu
was in hiding from the EFCC. How can somebody who didn’t vote
claim that he made me?,” Oshiomhole said.
“We have worked for our country. We made our name; we are not
tied to anybody. We simply worked and fought poverty and
fought for the people.”
He assured workers that he will continue to prioritise their
welfare, saying he will pay pension arrears before the end of his
tenure in November.
Oshiomhole urged the people to send the PDP in Edo state back to
obscurity with their Permanent Voter Cards on September 10.
